Suspect in custody over Indian man killing

Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the killing of an Indian national, Devendra Singh, in Kumasi.

The statement was signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

According to the police, the suspect is currently in custody and “assisting with investigations” as efforts intensify to track down other persons linked to the crime.

Authorities disclosed that the deceased had earlier been reported missing, prompting an initial search operation.

Police revealed that on April 25, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m., they received information that the victim’s vehicle had been located at the outskirts of Sabin Akrofuom, near the Royal Lemosey Hospital. Officers who moved to the scene found the vehicle parked by the roadside.

“Upon inspection, the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in the boot of the vehicle,” the statement said, adding that the body had multiple stab wounds.

The Ashanti Regional Crime Scene Management Team processed the area before conveying the body to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The vehicle has since been impounded to aid further investigations.

In response to the development, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team made up of intelligence officers and homicide investigators to support the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The team is expected to “ensure the arrest of all persons connected to this crime,” the statement noted.

Police assured the public that “every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice” and urged individuals with relevant information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.

The case has heightened concerns over safety, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to resolving the matter swiftly and thoroughly.
