Suspended NPP executive fires at NPP Regional Chairman

Emmanuel Awinimi, a dismissed Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Pusiga Constituency, has launched a scathing critique of the party’s Regional Chairman, Anthony Namoo.

He accused him of autocratic leadership and blamed him for the NPP’s abysmal performance in the Upper East Region.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, August 4, Awinimi described Mr. Namoo as a “dictator” who sidelined grassroots voices and presided over the collapse of the party’s gains in the region.

“He is a dictator. He does not take anybody’s views—what he thinks is final,” Awinimi alleged. “They handed three seats to him, and he narrowed it to one, and now to zero. Our region has become a laughing stock.”

The outspoken former officer, who was recently dismissed and barred from holding any party position for five years, also accused the regional chairman and secretary of orchestrating the controversial sanctions against 16 party members from the Pusiga and Tempane constituencies.

The sanctioned individuals were cited for misconduct and anti-party activities during the 2024 general elections. Their suspension, endorsed by the Regional Executive Committee, has stirred discontent among party loyalists.

According to Awinimi, the internal disciplinary crackdown is symptomatic of a broader leadership failure that prioritizes control over consensus.

He linked the party’s failure to win a single seat in the region to what he described as top-down decision-making and the disregard for grassroots voices.

“This kind of leadership has destroyed the party here. The region gave us three seats before Lawyer Tony came in. Now, we have none. That should tell you everything,” he said.

Despite his dismissal, Awinimi remains optimistic about the future of the NPP in the region, predicting a turnaround after Namoo exits office.

“The tables will soon turn, and the party in Upper East will be better after Lawyer Tony. We will be vindicated at the end of the day, mark it,” he declared.

He further challenged the regional chairman and secretary to publicly account for their own electoral performance at their respective polling stations in the 2024 elections.
