Transmission line burst affects water supply in Eastern Accra – GWCL

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced that a major burst on a 42-inch transmission pipeline has disrupted water supply to parts of eastern Accra and the Tema Metropolis.

According to the company, the incident occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, and has resulted in a significant interruption to the water supply across several communities within the affected service corridor.

In a public notice issued on its official Facebook page, GWL said the burst occurred on a main transmission line and confirmed that its engineers were immediately deployed to address the situation.

“Our engineers and technical teams mobilised immediately upon detection of the fault and have since been working around the clock to repair the damaged line,” the company stated.

GWL explained that the nature of the pipeline and the scale of the damage require careful and methodical repair work to ensure the integrity of the system is maintained.

“Due to the size of the transmission main and the complexity of the repair, the restoration process requires careful handling to ensure safety, durability and efficiency,” the statement said.

The company assured customers that efforts are being made to complete the repair work as quickly as possible and restore normal water supply once the work is completed.

“We assure the public that every effort is being made to complete the repair works as quickly as possible and restore normal water supply,” GWL said.

The disruption has affected the entire Tema Metropolis and several parts of Accra, including Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, Nungua, Teshie and surrounding communities.

Ghana Water Limited expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the interruption and appealed to customers for patience and understanding during the repair period.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of our cherished customers,” the company noted.

GWL further assured customers that water supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the repair works.

“Water supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the repair work,” the statement added.

The company also indicated that it would continue to update the public as work progresses and as the situation evolves.

“Further updates will be provided as the situation progresses,” GWL said.

The water utility reiterated its commitment to restoring supply to all affected areas and maintaining efficient service delivery.
