Trump to Feature on New US One-Dollar Coin

US President Donald Trump will appear on a newly issued US one-dollar commemorative coin being rolled out by the US Treasury Department.
The release of the coin forms part of initiatives to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.
The move is highly unusual because Trump is a living president, while US federal law generally prohibits the depiction of living individuals on US currency and coins.
According to US political historians, the coin marks the first time in more than a century that a living US president has appeared on a US currency design.
The obverse, or front, of the coin features a portrait of Trump with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the dual dates “1776 ~ 2026.”
The reverse features a version of the US presidential seal, depicting an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch. The eagle is covered by a shield bearing the number “250.”
Despite its gold-like appearance, the coin contains no real gold. It is made from a manganese brass alloy consisting of 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel.
A rare edition of the coin will also be available to collectors. The US Mint randomly mixed 250,000 coins struck on July 4, 2026, into standard packages. These coins bear a special “July 4th” privy mark, making them particularly attractive to collectors.
The design was made possible by a provision in legislation passed in 2020 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, allowing the administration to depart from the usual restrictions on depictions of living individuals.
