Viral video of road being pulled apart is from Liberia, not Ghana – Roads Ministry

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has rejected the circulation of a viral video showing a road surface being pulled apart by hand, saying the footage was recorded in Liberia and has no connection to road projects under its supervision in Ghana.
The video has circulated on social media, drawing attention to the apparent ease with which parts of the road surface can be removed and prompting questions about road construction quality.
However, in a statement, the Ministry said the footage was being wrongly associated with Ghana’s road infrastructure projects and urged the public not to accept the claims without verification.
“The Ministry categorically rejects this misrepresentation. Our checks indicate that the road featured in the video is located in Liberia, not Ghana. Any attempt to associate the footage with road construction projects under the Ministry’s supervision in Ghana is misleading and must be treated with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement said.
The Ministry said the circulation of the video risked creating a false impression about the quality of roads being constructed in Ghana and undermining public confidence in ongoing infrastructure projects.
“The Ministry will not allow misleading content to distort the facts about its work or undermine public confidence in ongoing road infrastructure projects,” it stated.
It added that the Roads Minister and the Ministry remained committed to ensuring that roads constructed across the country met the required standards, pointing to the minister’s ongoing inspection tours of road projects nationwide.
