We have no plans of attacking NATO – Russian Foreign Minister

Sergei Lavrov
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has dismissed claims that Moscow is preparing to attack NATO or European Union countries, insisting that such suggestions are false.
Speaking on behalf of President Vladimir Putin at the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Lavrov said Russia has never had and does not have any plans to strike NATO.
“Russia has never had and does not have any such intentions,” he stated. “However, any aggression against my country will be met with a decisive response. There should be no doubt about this among those in NATO and the EU.”
Mr. Lavrov accused Western governments of scaring their populations with predictions of war while preparing potential strikes on Russian territories.
“They are forcing their people to tighten their belts while openly talking about preparations for an attack on Kaliningrad Oblast and other Russian territories,” he added.
His remarks come against a backdrop of frequent airspace confrontations. NATO has recorded several cases of Russian aircraft flying close to or crossing into allied airspace, often without transponders.
Such incidents, involving fighter jets and bombers, have prompted NATO members to scramble interceptors, particularly around the Baltic states and Poland.
Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave between Poland and Lithuania, is a key point of friction.
The territory is heavily militarized and hosts advanced missile systems, making it central to Russia’s defense posture and NATO’s monitoring efforts.
Mr. Lavrov’s address at the UN reinforced Russia’s stance that it does not seek confrontation but is prepared to respond firmly to any threat to its borders.
