We must remain anchored in party’s ideology, uphold accountability – Opong-Fosu to NDC Youth

Former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Opong-Fosu, has urged the youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to deepen their understanding of the party’s social democratic ideology and remain committed to its core principles.

Addressing the Western Region NDC Youth and Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) Conference, held under the theme “Building the Past, Empowering the Future,” Mr. Opong-Fosu said young cadres have a responsibility to understand and defend the values that distinguish the NDC from other political traditions.

He contrasted the NDC’s social democratic orientation with what he described as the New Patriotic Party’s property-owning tradition, arguing that the NDC must remain committed to promoting social justice and broader inclusion.

Mr. Opong-Fosu urged the youth to champion probity, accountability and social justice, describing them as essential principles for Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

He also encouraged the young cadres to uphold the principle that “until everyone counts, no one counts,” stressing that political engagement must ultimately translate into governance that serves society as a whole.

According to him, strengthening the ideological foundation of the NDC youth is critical to preserving the party’s identity and preparing a new generation of leaders committed to responsible and inclusive governance.
