World Cup: We believe in you, make us proud – Bagbin to Black Stars

Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has shown support for Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of their opening match against Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 17, the Speaker expressed confidence in the team’s ability to represent the country creditably on the world stage. He noted that the Black Stars have the backing of all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or ethnic background.
Mr. Bagbin said the World Cup provides an opportunity for citizens to come together in support of a common national cause. He stressed that the players are carrying the aspirations and expectations of millions of Ghanaians who are eager to see the nation excel at the tournament.
The Speaker encouraged the squad to remain focused, disciplined, and determined throughout the competition.
He described the Black Stars as a symbol of national pride and resilience, capable of bringing joy and inspiration to the country through their performance.
He further advised the players to give their all whenever they step onto the field and to uphold the values associated with wearing the national jersey. According to him, the unwavering support of the Ghanaian people should motivate the team to strive for success.
“As Speaker of Parliament, I urge you to play with passion, confidence and belief. Let the world see the talent, discipline and character that makes Ghana a respected football nation,” he said.
Mr. Bagbin also reminded the players that the World Cup is a stage where determination and courage are rewarded, urging them to make the most of the opportunity before them.
He expressed optimism that the Black Stars could leave a lasting impression on football fans and inspire young people across the country through their achievements.
The Speaker ended his message by extending his best wishes to the team and expressing hope for a positive start to Ghana’s World Cup journey.
