YEA increases monthly allowances for beneficiaries to GH¢800

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has increased the monthly allowances of its beneficiaries from GH¢500 to GH¢800, representing a 60 per cent increment, Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale announced.
Basintale disclosed this during the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, explaining that the adjustment was part of efforts to improve the welfare of young people participating in the Agency’s employment programmes.
He said the Agency recognised the need to ensure that its interventions provided not only employment opportunities and practical skills but also better financial support for beneficiaries contributing to public services and other assigned activities.
“We believe that the dignity of labour must be reflected, as much as practicable, in the remuneration and welfare of those who work, and we are doing just that!” he said.
Beyond the increase in monthly allowances, Basintale identified the timely payment of beneficiaries as another priority for the Agency.
He said the YEA had been working to improve the regularity and predictability of payments to ensure that beneficiaries could better manage their financial obligations.
“We recognise that young people who commit themselves to public service deserve predictable remuneration, without having to endure prolonged and unnecessary delays,” he said.
The CEO acknowledged that challenges remained but assured beneficiaries that the Agency would continue strengthening its payment arrangements.
He added that the welfare of young people enrolled in the various programmes would remain central to the Agency’s operations.
The increase from GH¢500 to GH¢800 represents an additional GH¢300 per month for each beneficiary.
The adjustment is expected to provide beneficiaries with additional financial support as they undertake their assigned duties and gain work experience through the Agency’s employment interventions.
Basintale reiterated the YEA’s commitment to improving the conditions of beneficiaries while ensuring that its programmes continue to provide meaningful employment opportunities for young people across the country.
