Zug-Raan of Kusaug directs all assemblies and departments in Kusaug to remain open to govt business 

Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the Zug-Raan of Kusaug, has issued a directive that all district assemblies and government departments in the Kusaug Traditional Area are to stay open and fully operational. This order comes in response to reports of unauthorized closures of several municipal and district offices within the area.

The Bawku conflict is a long-standing ethnic and chieftaincy dispute between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups in Ghana’s Upper East Region. Rooted in rival claims to the Bawku chieftaincy, the conflict has resulted in violence, loss of lives, and instability, severely impacting public services and economic activities. Despite numerous peace initiatives, tensions persist, making the Zug-Raan’s recent directive to keep government offices open an important call for stability in the region.

In a press release dated November 3, 2024, and signed by David Adoliba, the Zug-Raan’s Secretary, it was noted that “some persons have caused some offices of the Municipal and District Assemblies in the Kusaug Traditional Area to be closed,” with specific reference to the Bawku Municipal, Binduri, and Bawku West District Assemblies.

His Royal Majesty, the Zug-Raan of Kusaug, expressed concern over these actions, emphasizing that government responsibilities to the public must not be disrupted. “All offices of the assemblies in the entire Kusaug should remain opened to perform Government Business,” the statement read, stressing the need for government workers to “freely attend to their daily responsibilities.”

The statement further directed that “nobody should interfere in the operations of any Government agencies or Department,” reflecting the traditional authority’s stance on ensuring uninterrupted government services for the well-being of the Kusaug people.
