2024 Election: Fitch predicts victory for John Mahama

American Credit Rating Agency, Fitch Solutions has confidently predicted a landslide victory for John Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana’s December 2024 elections.
The survey indicates that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia is likely to face defeat because of the persistently high inflation and weakening living standards in the country.
The poor economic management of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his VP has significantly impacted many Ghanaians, eroding all the goodwill the party enjoyed from the voting population prior to the 2016 election.
The Fitch report notes further that the NPP’s attempt to introduce an Import Restriction Bill, which angered the business community, could also undermine the party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections.
The findings are consistent with other research outcomes published by Afrobarometer, a pan-African research institution. That research said about 41% of the sampled population expressed strong disapproval of the current members of parliament, especially MPs on the side of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
Another research conducted by Global Info Analytics showed that about 65% of respondents in their recent survey cited the economy as their foremost consideration in deciding their votes in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.
The Fitch survey also stated that the 2024 elections would be very peaceful without any significant distractions.
