Alan Kyerematen launches United Party, declares “Ghana is UP”

Ghana’s political landscape has entered a new phase following the launch of the United Party (UP).

A political movement led by Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, with Boniface Abubakar Saddique and Yaw Buaben Asamoa as key founding members.

The party was officially unveiled at the Coconut Grove Hotel in Accra on Thursday, October 16, 2025, marking what Kyerematen described as “the dawn of a new era and a people’s movement to unite the nation beyond partisan divides.”

“Today, we lift Ghana UP, united in purpose, driven by integrity, and committed to prosperity for all,” Kyerematen declared to thunderous applause.

“This is not just the birth of a party but the beginning of a movement that puts Ghana first.”

The UP, which received its provisional certification from the Electoral Commission on October 3, aims to challenge Ghana’s long-standing two-party dominance by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Positioning itself as a centrist and inclusive alternative, the United Party seeks to unite citizens across ideological, ethnic, and social divides under what it calls a single national vision.

Outlining the party’s long-term agenda, Kyerematen introduced the “Paradise Project,” a Vision 2040 blueprint designed to make Ghana the “economic powerhouse of Africa within fifteen years.” The initiative builds on his earlier Great Transformational Plan (GTP), focusing on industrialisation, private sector growth, job creation, debt reduction, and good governance.
He said the United Party stands for ethical leadership, meritocracy, and zero tolerance for corruption, describing the UP’s emblem — the Monarch Butterfly — as a symbol of transformation and resilience. The party’s colours — yellow, black, and white — represent Ghana’s gold wealth, the Black Star of Africa, and purity of purpose.

The event concluded with a burst of optimism as supporters waved flags and chanted, “Ghana is UP!”
In his closing remarks, Kyerematen declared: “The United Party is the people’s party. Together, we will lift Ghana — UP, united, prosperous, and transformed. God bless our homeland, Ghana.”
