I’m still team Bawumia, disregard false claims – Adwoa Safo

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has dismissed as false reports claiming she has abandoned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for Kennedy Agyapong.
In a statement on Wednesday, the former lawmaker described the publication by The Insight Newspaper as “false, misleading, and maliciously fabricated” to create disaffection within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and among her supporters.
“My attention has been drawn to a recent publication by The Insight Newspaper alleging that I have switched allegiance from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong,” she stated. “I wish to categorically and unequivocally deny this claim as false.”
Adwoa Safo said she has never made any statement, publicly or privately, suggesting she had withdrawn her support for Dr. Bawumia, whom she described as the rightful leader of the NPP.
“At no point in time have I made any statement suggesting that I have withdrawn my support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” she clarified. “Such publications are mischievous and a deliberate attempt to sow division and undermine the unity we continue to build after the 2024 general elections.”
She reaffirmed her loyalty to the Vice President and his vision for both the NPP and Ghana. “Let me state for the avoidance of doubt that I remain firmly loyal to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and fully committed to his vision for our party and for Ghana,” she said.
The former Gender Minister described Dr. Bawumia as “a leader who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, humility, competence, and resilience even in the face of adversity.”
She urged party members to focus on unity rather than apportioning blame for the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat. “Leadership transitions often come with challenges, but assigning blame to one individual is neither fair nor productive,” she noted.
Adwoa Safo further called on The Insight Newspaper to retract the publication and issue an apology, emphasizing that “responsible journalism demands fairness, accuracy, and truth.”
She reaffirmed her commitment to the party’s future. “The unity and progress of the NPP remain paramount, and I continue to pledge my unflinching support to Dr. Bawumia as we prepare for victory in 2028.”
Since losing her position in leadership within the erstwhile Majority caucus in Parliament, Ms. Safo has been active on the campaign trail with Dr. Bawumia.
