I won’t criticize Mahama after just ten months in office – Ken Agyapong
A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, says it would be unreasonable to criticise President John Mahama’s government just ten months into its second term.
In an interview on Spear FM in Damongo over the weekend, Agyapong explained that leadership should be assessed based on time and results, not impatience or political rivalry.
He said that rushing to condemn the Mahama administration at this stage would be unfair and unproductive.
“Ghanaians must be patient. You can’t expect instant miracles from a government that’s still putting systems in place. Even in farming, what you plant in ten months may not be ready for harvest,” he said.
He dismissed allegations that his mild tone toward the Mahama government stems from personal financial interests or pending government payments.
According to him, such rumours are false and intended to tarnish his image as he campaigns to lead the NPP.
“My focus right now is on my campaign to lead the party. I’m not distracted by baseless claims. When there’s wrongdoing, I’ll speak up, but unnecessary criticism helps no one,” he stated.
The outspoken politician has been touring the country to engage party delegates ahead of the NPP presidential primaries. He has repeatedly described himself as a man of action who prioritises jobs, discipline, and accountability over political rhetoric.
The upcoming primaries, scheduled for January 2026, feature former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; MP for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; MP for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, former General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong and Mr. Agyapong himself.
Mr. Kennedy Agyapong has said he will adopt a conciliatory tone in his second bid for the presidency after coming second to Dr. Bawumia in 2023.
In a post shared on social media, the Assin Central MP, known for his uncompromising style, acknowledged his reputation for blunt speech and fiery commentary over the years.
He explained that while exposing problems had its place, the time had come to channel his energy into building solutions for the country.
“You know me. You’ve heard me speak my mind for years. I’ve always spoken from the heart, sometimes with fire, because I love this country,” Agyapong wrote on X last month.
