Gov’t to integrate Saglemi into major industrial-residential corridor – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced government plans to integrate the Saglemi Housing Project into a major industrial and residential corridor as part of its broader new city development vision.
He made this announcement during a tour of the Saglemi Housing Project, where he outlined plans to connect the development to other strategic projects in the area.
According to him the planned new city will stretch from the Saglemi area through Bundase, where the military firing range was previously located, and extend towards the Volta Lake.
“It is going to be a very major industrial and residential corridor,” he said.
He explained that the Saglemi Housing Project fits into the government’s vision for the new city, alongside the Dawa Industrial Park, which is expected to serve as an important industrial hub within the corridor.
“Saglemi fits into it very nicely. The Dawa Industrial Park fits into it very nicely,” he added.
President Mahama also commended the partnership between the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing and the private developer involved in the project.
He expressed hope that the collaboration would accelerate construction and allow the government to begin handing over completed houses to beneficiaries.
The President said he expected the first set of houses to be commissioned around Easter following Christmas.
“It is my hope that we’ll congregate here after Christmas, just around the Easter, to commission the first set of houses and hand them over,” he stated.
President Mahama further disclosed that the government intends to return to the project in December to complete the remaining houses under the first phase.
The Saglemi Housing Project was originally conceptualised as a residential estate with 5,000 housing units. The first phase comprises 1,500 units.
He said government was confident that the first 1,500 houses would be delivered by December next year, after which work would begin on the additional 3,500 units.
“We are sure that by December next year, that first phase of 1,500 would have been delivered, and then work would have started on the extra 3,500 housing units,” Mahama said.
He added that, the planned integration of Saglemi into the industrial and residential corridor is expected to position the area as an important centre for housing, industry and economic activity.
