Julius Debrah leads gov’t delegation to commiserate with Agyeman-Rawlings’ family

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has led a government delegation to the residence of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

This is to extend condolences to the Rawlings family following her passing on October 23, 2025.

The high-level delegation, which included senior government officials and party representatives, visited the family home to express solidarity and sympathy during this difficult moment. The officials signed the book of condolence opened in honour of the late stateswoman, reflecting on her enduring contributions to Ghana’s political and social advancement.

According to information from the Office of the Chief of Staff, the visit formed part of the government’s formal expression of support to the bereaved family and recognition of the late Nana Konadu’s decades of service to the nation.

During the solemn encounter, the family of the late former First Lady expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming show of love, prayers, and visits from state and party officials since the news of her passing broke. They described the gesture as comforting and reflective of the national respect Nana Konadu commanded during her lifetime.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, passed away at the Ridge Hospital in Accra at age 76. She was widely known as a pioneer of women’s empowerment and a tireless advocate for social and economic justice.

Her groundbreaking work through the 31st December Women’s Movement transformed the lives of countless women across Ghana, promoting education, entrepreneurship, and political participation. She later made history as Ghana’s first female presidential candidate in 2012 — a milestone that cemented her reputation as a trailblazer in national leadership.

Her life story, documented in her 2018 autobiography “It Takes a Woman,” captured her journey of resilience, advocacy, and leadership in a male-dominated political landscape.

As the nation continues to mourn, funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.

Though she is gone, her legacy as a symbol of courage, conviction, and empowerment will continue to inspire generations of Ghanaian women and leaders.
