Translate policies signed into well-taught lessons – Dr. Apaak to District Directors of Education

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has charged District Directors of Education to go on District Directors of Education to go the ‘last mile’ on policy signed in Accra into a lesson well taught.
Dr. Apaak disclosed this at the 33rd Conference of Directors of Education (CODE) held at the GNAT Hall, Bolgatanga — Upper East Region recently.
The Builsa South lawmaker stated that the theme for the conference, “From Policy to Classroom: District Leadership for Quality Learning Outcomes and 21st Century Skills for National Development,” speaks directly to the work of the District Directors.
“Let us be honest with one another. Ghana does not lack policy.
“We have curricula, frameworks, standards and directives on every aspect of schooling. What we have too often lacked is the last mile: the translation of a policy signed in Accra into a lesson well taught in Bongo, Bawku or Bongo-Soe.
“That last mile belongs to you,” Dr. Apaak told the District Directors.
Dr. Apaak further stated that District leadership means more than administering circulars.
“It means knowing which schools in your district are underperforming, and why. It means standing beside a struggling headteacher rather than simply issuing a query. It means walking into classrooms often enough that your presence itself raises the standard of what happens there.
“Quality learning outcomes are not produced in Accra. They are produced, or lost, under your watch.”
