Several killed in Kasoa tollbooth crash

A tragic accident near the Kasoa tollbooth on Sunday night claimed multiple lives and left several others critically injured after a Sprinter minibus collided with a Jeep.
Eyewitnesses say the crash occurred when the minibus, registered GW 7455-18 and travelling toward Kasoa, struck the rear of a Jeep 4×4 with registration GR 7673.
The impact was so severe that the minibus somersaulted several times before landing in a mangled state.
The vehicle was reportedly full of passengers returning from weekend activities.
Several occupants died instantly, while others were trapped inside the wreckage as bystanders and emergency responders rushed to rescue them.
Rescue teams worked frantically to extract survivors and transport them to nearby health facilities. Those with serious injuries were taken to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic for emergency treatment.
Paramedics faced difficulties transferring one critically injured victim to a higher-level hospital due to the unavailability of immediate referrals. The delay lasted nearly an hour as efforts continued to find an open facility.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement on the total number of casualties or the cause of the accident.
The wrecked vehicles were later towed from the scene to restore traffic flow.
The tragic incident has renewed calls for heightened vigilance among motorists and improved safety measures on busy sections of the Accra–Cape Coast highway.
Commuters have long expressed concern about speeding, sudden lane changes, and poor visibility near the Kasoa tollbooth, which has become a frequent site of serious crashes.
Police investigators are expected to provide details after completing preliminary assessments and interviewing witnesses to determine the full circumstances of the collision.
