Godwin Asediba named 2025 GJA Journalist of the Year

Media General’s Godwin Asediba has been named the Overall Best Journalist of the Year at the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, recognising his exceptional contributions to Ghanaian journalism.
The event, held under the theme “Safeguarding Ghana’s future: the role of the media in promoting peace, security and the fight against galamsey,” celebrated journalists whose work has deepened public understanding of national issues. The award was presented to Asediba by President John Dramani Mahama and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Asediba, known for his compelling documentaries and human-centered storytelling, was also adjudged the winner of the Best Documentary (TV) category.
His works have earned praise for their balance of empathy, depth, and journalistic rigor, often exploring social justice and governance themes.
In a message on X, Asediba expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a reminder of journalism’s duty to truth and humanity.
“I accept this award as GJA Journalist of the Year with deep humility. The future of journalism in Ghana depends on how fearlessly we can question, how ethically we can report, and how humanely we can tell our nation’s story,” he wrote.
Asediba could not attend the ceremony, as he is currently in the United Kingdom participating in a professional programme following his recent win of the prestigious Komla Dumor Award.
Media General’s TV3, celebrated the achievement in a post on X, saying, “Congratulations to Godwin Asediba, who has been adjudged as having submitted the Best Documentary (TV).
“Your exceptional work and commitment to impactful storytelling continue to set a high standard in television journalism. We celebrate your achievement and look forward to many more outstanding productions.”
The 2025 GJA Awards ceremony also highlighted the growing influence of journalists in shaping national dialogue, particularly around issues of peace, security, and environmental protection.
The recognition of Asediba’s work reaffirmed the media’s enduring responsibility to pursue truth and accountability in the public interest.
