Haruna Iddrisu recovering ‘speedily’ – Dr. Apaak

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, says Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu is recovering well after a recent road traffic accident.

Dr. Apaak delivered the update on Monday during a meeting with 2025 BECE awardees at the Ministry of Education in Accra on Monday, 2nd February, 2025.

“I am sure as smart as you are, many of you are aware that the minister is not able to join us presently because he was involved in an accident about a fortnight ago,” he told the students.

He quickly reassured them about the minister’s condition.

“The good news is that he is doing very well. He is recovering speedily,” Dr. Apaak said, adding that the minister asked him to convey his goodwill.

“He asked me to extend his felicitations to you, that although he’s not here in person, he’s with you in spirit. He says I should tell you ‘Akwaaba’ to the ministry.”

The update follows an official statement issued on February 14, 2026, announcing that Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu had been discharged from the 37 Military Hospital after receiving treatment.

“The Office of the Honourable Minister for Education announces that Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has been discharged from the 37 Military Hospital following a road traffic accident,” the statement said.

It added that he “is in good spirits and has been advised to rest as part of his recovery,” noting that he expressed “sincere gratitude to the medical team and all who offered prayers and support.”

The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister.

Mr. Iddrisu was involved in the crash two weeks ago along the Bolgatanga–Tumu road while travelling with Deputy Communications Minister Mohammed Adams Sukparu and members of their teams to the Upper West Region for official engagements.

Earlier communication from his office indicated that both officials were in stable condition.

The minister was later spotted on Friday on the floor of Parliament during President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, signalling steady recovery as he continues to rest.
