Police arrest man over alleged attack on motor accident victim

The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with an alleged assault that occurred following a motor accident in the Maamobi area of Accra.
The incident took place on Saturday, 22nd February 2026, when 24-year-old Yakubu Manan Abdul reported that he had been involved in a collision with the suspect, identified as Razak Kwanda. Preliminary investigations indicate that during the accident, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim, causing injuries.
According to the Ghana Police Service, police personnel on routine patrol in the Maamobi area responded to the situation, conveying the victim and his damaged motorbike to the Kotobabi Police Station. A formal complaint was lodged, and investigations were immediately launched.
The suspect was subsequently arrested on Wednesday, 26th February 2026, at about 9:45 a.m. He is currently on police enquiry bail and is cooperating with authorities as investigations continue.
In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command cautioned members of the public against resorting to violence in the event of road traffic accidents. “Members of the public are advised to remain calm and allow the appropriate authorities to handle such matters in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The Command also emphasized its commitment to maintaining law and order in the region. “We further assure the public of our commitment to maintaining law and order and urge anyone with relevant information to assist the Police in ongoing investigations,” the statement added.
The press release, signed by Ms. Juliana Obeng, Superintendent and Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, also reminded road users to exercise patience and avoid confrontations following accidents. The Police reiterated that violent behavior is unacceptable and will be dealt with according to the law.
The arrest of Razak Kwanda highlights the vigilance of the Ghana Police Service in responding to criminal incidents promptly, as well as its ongoing efforts to uphold public safety in Accra. Authorities continue to investigate the matter and have called on anyone with further information to come forward to assist in the process.
