Final funeral rites of Dr. Apaak’s late father underway in Doninga-Bulsa South

The final funeral rites of the late Pastor John Azundem Apaak have commenced in Doninga in the Builsa South constituency.
The rites honour the father of Deputy Education Minister Clement Abas Apaak, bringing together family, clergy, and community members to celebrate a life described as devoted to faith and service.
Images circulating from the ceremony highlight the solemn yet dignified atmosphere, with banners announcing the “Final Funeral Rites” scheduled from April 25 to April 29, 2026, at Doninga in the Builsa South area. The tribute message, “Forever in our heart,” underscores the deep affection held for the late pastor.
This final phase follows earlier funeral activities held in January, which drew large crowds to the GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga. At the time, mourners gathered in significant numbers to pay their last respects, reflecting the widespread impact of Pastor Apaak’s ministry and personal life.
Pastor John Azundem Apaak, affectionately called “Baba,” passed away on November 4, 2025, at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital at the age of 81. His death came shortly after he celebrated his birthday on October 25, marking the end of what the family described as a fulfilled and impactful life.
In a statement announcing his passing, Dr. Apaak, on behalf of the family, described his father as a “man of faith” who dedicated his life to Christian service, particularly within the Deeper Life Church community in Bolgatanga.
“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our beloved father… He passed on to glory earlier today,” the statement said at the time.
The ongoing final rites in Doninga have attracted a mix of mourners, including religious leaders, traditional authorities, political figures, and residents from across the Upper East Region. Many attendees have joined the family to offer condolences and share memories of the late pastor’s influence.
Tributes continue to highlight his humility, spiritual guidance, and commitment to nurturing faith among his congregation and the wider community. Speakers at the event have emphasized his legacy as both a religious leader and a father whose values shaped many lives, including that of his son in public service.
The family has once again appealed for prayers and support, particularly for the widow, children, and grandchildren, as they navigate this period of remembrance.
As the rites progress, the atmosphere in Doninga remains one of reflection, gratitude, and reverence for a life that left a lasting imprint on both church and community.
