Ghana Medical Help boosts healthcare in Builsa South with $27,744 equipment donation

Ghana Medical Help (GMH) has donated essential medical equipment valued at US$27,744 (approximately GH¢319,056) to the Builsa South District Hospital in Fumbisi to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen diagnostic and patient monitoring services in the Upper East Region.

The donation, announced in a letter on Monday, August 3, 2026, forms part of the organisation’s broader efforts to support the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Health Service in expanding access to quality healthcare for underserved communities in northern Ghana.

According to Ghana Medical Help, the consignment includes an ultrasound machine, cardiac monitors, an electrocardiograph machine, pulse oximeters, blood pressure cuffs and other patient monitoring equipment.

“This equipment has been donated free of charge to the hospital as part of Ghana Medical Help’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, improving access to quality diagnostic and patient monitoring services, and supporting the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Health Service in advancing equitable healthcare for underserved communities in northern Ghana.”

The organisation said the equipment is expected to significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to provide timely diagnosis, emergency care and patient monitoring across several clinical departments.

“The equipment listed in Annex 1 is expected to significantly strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide timely diagnosis, patient monitoring, and emergency care.”

GMH explained that the donation would enhance maternal and child healthcare, outpatient services, theatre operations and inpatient care, ultimately improving patient safety and clinical outcomes for residents of the Builsa South District and neighbouring communities.

The organisation also appealed to the hospital to ensure the equipment is properly installed, maintained and used solely for patient care.

Ghana Medical Help further expressed appreciation to its donors, volunteers and partner institutions for supporting the initiative.

It also acknowledged the contribution of the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, who paid the customs duties and clearing charges and assisted in facilitating the required Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) regulatory processes for the equipment.

GMH reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Ghana Health Service and other stakeholders to strengthen healthcare systems and improve health outcomes across northern Ghana.
