Fresh charges will be filed against former NAFCO CEO – EOCO boss

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, could soon face a new set of charges despite the recent withdrawal of an earlier criminal case against him and four others.
Executive Director of EOCO, Raymond Archer, disclosed that investigators have uncovered additional evidence which has already been submitted to the Attorney General for consideration and possible prosecution.
His comments come days after prosecutors discontinued the previous case involving Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, his wife Faiza Wuni, and three other accused persons. The charges against all five individuals were formally withdrawn on Tuesday, May 5.
Speaking on Joy News on Saturday, May 9, Mr. Archer clarified that the withdrawal of the earlier charges should not be interpreted as the end of the matter, insisting that investigations are still ongoing.
According to him, EOCO has completed a fresh report based on newly obtained evidence and forwarded it to the Attorney General’s office for the next line of action.
“The new evidence is being forwarded to the Attorney General based on a report that we have compiled and we will continue the interrogation of Hanan,” he stated.
Mr. Archer further indicated that the anti-graft agency is working to ensure the legal process continues without delay and expressed confidence that prosecutors would soon return to court with fresh charges.
“I am sure that quickly, next week, those charges will be filed,” he added.
The accused persons were previously standing trial over allegations relating to the theft and laundering of more than GH¢78 million.
The case has remained one of the country’s most talked-about financial crime investigations in recent years due to the amount involved and the public positions held by some of the accused persons.
EOCO’s latest disclosure suggests that although the initial prosecution has been discontinued, the agency remains determined to pursue the matter based on the new evidence gathered during investigations.
