24-hour economy market to open in Builsa South

Residents and traders in the Builsa South Municipality are set to benefit from a new 24-hour economy market project under the government’s economic agenda.
The project, announced under the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme (24H+), is expected to create jobs, expand local commerce, and support continuous economic activity in the area through a three-shift operational system.
The initiative forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader national strategy aimed at transforming Ghana from a low-value, import-dependent economy into a production-led and export-driven economy operating around the clock.
The proposed market project for the Builsa South Municipal Assembly will include lockable shops, sheds and stalls, a cold store, a meat section, a warehouse, and public washrooms.
Other planned facilities include a bulk breakage area, administrative offices, parking spaces, a waste management area, fire and police posts, a security post, a pharmacy, a clinic, a restaurant, a gym, a day care centre, and a supermarket or mini mart.
Government officials featured in the project announcement include Local Government Minister Ahmed Ibrahim, Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga, Deputy Education Minister Clement Apaak, and Builsa South District Chief Executive Anne Musah.
Consultancy work on the project is being handled by Avangarde Design Services, while Joberg Ghana Limited has been named as the contractor.
Authorities believe the market will operate within the framework of the 24H+ policy, which encourages businesses and institutions to function on a continuous basis using an eight-hour shift system to maximise productivity and employment opportunities.
The initiative is also expected to support youth empowerment, stimulate local businesses, and improve access to modern trading infrastructure within the municipality.
The market is expected to strengthen economic activity in Builsa South while contributing to the government’s broader objective of sustainable economic development and accelerated export growth across the country.
