All qualified BECE graduates will gain SHS admission – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured parents and candidates that all qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates will gain admission into second-cycle institutions this year.
In a statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, for management, the GES said comprehensive arrangements had been completed to ensure the successful placement of students across the country.
Management indicated that preparations had been made to receive fresh students into Senior High and Technical Schools on September 18, 2026.
“We wish to indicate that all qualified candidates will be placed in schools,” the statement said.
According to the GES, every effort had been made to ensure that each student would have access to senior high and technical education, despite concerns circulating in sections of the media.
The Service dismissed reports claiming that about 72,000 students risked not being placed, describing the reports as speculative and inaccurate.
“The report circulating in sections of the media suggesting that about 72,000 students risk not being placed is speculative and does not reflect the reality. We, therefore, urge the public to disregard it,” the statement noted.
GES further assured stakeholders that there were adequate facilities and infrastructure available to accommodate all qualified students entering the second-cycle education system this academic year.
“There are adequate infrastructure and facilities to accommodate all qualified students,” management stressed.
The statement also addressed concerns surrounding the ongoing phase-out of the double-track system, insisting that the transition would not negatively affect access to secondary education.
“Management assures stakeholders that the ongoing efforts to phase out the double-track system will not in any way hinder students’ access to senior high/technical education,” the statement added.
The Service explained that the reforms would instead improve the quality of teaching and learning while maintaining access for all eligible students.
GES also congratulated Junior High School graduates on the successful completion of the BECE and encouraged stakeholders to support efforts aimed at ensuring equitable and quality education for every Ghanaian child.
