TV3 rubbishes claims Kofi Bentil fell ill in studio

Media Channel, TV3 Ghana, has dismissed reports that policy analyst Kofi Bentil fell ill or lost consciousness during a live broadcast of its Saturday current affairs programme, The Key Points.
The clarification was issued in a statement signed by management after a video circulated widely on social media showing Mr Bentil appearing to fall from his seat while participating in the programme on Saturday.
According to TV3, reports suggesting that the Vice President of IMANI Africa collapsed or became unconscious during the broadcast were false and misleading.
“TV3 Ghana wishes to clarify misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that lawyer and policy analyst Kofi Bentil lost consciousness during a live broadcast of #TheKeyPoints on Saturday, 30 May 2026. These claims are false,” the statement said.
The broadcaster explained that the incident stemmed from a minor disruption involving the seat used by Mr Bentil during the live programme.
“During the programme, a minor seat-related disruption briefly affected the broadcast. At no point did Mr Bentil lose consciousness or collapse,” TV3 stated.
The video of the incident quickly attracted attention online, with some social media users speculating about the commentator’s health after fellow panellists moved to assist him on set.
Mr Bentil, a lawyer and regular panellist on The Key Points, frequently contributes to discussions on major political, economic and social developments in Ghana. The programme is one of TV3’s flagship weekend current affairs shows and features analysts and public figures debating issues in the news.
TV3 expressed regret over the incident and commended Mr Bentil for his response during and after the broadcast.
“TV3 extends its sincere apologies to Mr Bentil for the inconvenience caused and appreciates his understanding and professionalism,” the statement noted.
The station also urged the public to ignore unverified claims about Mr Bentil’s condition.
“We also urge the public to disregard all false reports, speculation, and misinformation regarding his health,” management said.
Reiterating its commitment to responsible journalism, TV3 called on media organisations, bloggers and members of the public to avoid sharing information that has not been verified.
“TV3 remains committed to accurate, responsible, and ethical journalism and calls on media outlets, bloggers, and the public to refrain from sharing unverified information,” the statement added.
