Unknown assailants fire bullets at Adjoa Safo

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo is receiving medical treatment after unidentified gunmen allegedly opened fire on her vehicle on Sunday.
The incident reportedly occurred near the residence of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, amid escalating tensions surrounding the succession process within the Kristo Asafo family following the death of Apostle Emeritus Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena had been mobilising supporters in connection with efforts to install him as the successor to his late father, a development that has generated disagreement among some members of the family.
According to information available, police officers from the Dome District Command were alerted to the situation and deployed to the area to provide security as tensions heightened.
Witnesses alleged that while the former legislator was present in the vicinity, armed men, reportedly acting on the instructions of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, opened fire on her vehicle.
The attackers are said to have discharged approximately 15 rounds of ammunition during the incident. One of the bullets reportedly grazed the former lawmaker near her neck, prompting an urgent response from those at the scene.
Hon. Adwoa Safo was subsequently rushed to a medical facility, where she is said to have been stabilised and is currently receiving treatment.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the shooting or confirming the identities of those allegedly involved.
The incident comes at a time when tensions within the Kristo Asafo family continue to intensify over who should succeed the late founder and leader of the movement.
The succession process has already become the subject of legal disputes, with some family members challenging attempts to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the next leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Investigations are expected to be launched to establish the facts surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, after decades of leadership and influence within the Kristo Asafo Mission and Ghana’s industrial sector.
According to updates from the family, his burial and funeral ceremonies are scheduled to take place on July 30 and 31, 2026.
The latest incident is likely to heighten public attention on the ongoing succession dispute as authorities work to determine exactly what transpired and ensure accountability for any criminal acts committed.
