Queiroz hasn’t informed us of resignation – Sports Minister

Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, says the government has not received any formal communication indicating that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has resigned.
Speaking on Joy FM on Tuesday morning, the Minister said Queiroz’s farewell message on social media could not be treated as an official resignation because the coach was appointed through formal processes.
“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resign on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” Adams said.
The Minister explained that neither he nor the government had engaged Queiroz since Ghana’s exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026, adding that he expects the Portuguese coach to submit a comprehensive technical report on the team’s campaign.
“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he said.
According to Adams, the report will provide an opportunity to assess both the technical and administrative issues affecting the Black Stars and help shape decisions on the team’s future.
He also endorsed Queiroz’s view that Ghana’s football development requires improvements beyond performances on the pitch.
“And he’s right when he says it’s not just going to be on the pitch. There are off-pitch issues, and there are on-pitch issues also. I’m happy he has stated it clearly,” the Minister stated.
Queiroz’s comments follow an emotional farewell message he shared after Ghana’s elimination from the World Cup. In the post, the 73-year-old thanked the Ghana Football Association, his players, technical staff and supporters for their confidence throughout his time in charge.
“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn,” Queiroz wrote.
He also argued that the Black Stars’ long-term success depends on strengthening football structures away from the field of play.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,” he said.
Queiroz’s tenure came to an end after Ghana’s World Cup campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32. Although the Black Stars reached the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since 2010, their journey ended at Kansas City Stadium after Jhon Arias scored the decisive goal in the 14th minute.
