Commonwealth Hall’s strength lies in resilience – Dr. Apaak

Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak has described unity and resilience as the foundation of Commonwealth Hall’s enduring legacy and continued relevance.

Dr. Apaak made the remarks after representing Old Vandals in the Executive and Legislature at the 2026 Vandal Jamboree, held at Bacchus Gardens in Commonwealth Hall on August 1.

The event was significant as it marked the first annual Jamboree hosted in the Vandal City in five years following the resolution of the impasse between the University of Ghana and the Old Vandals fraternity.

Reflecting on the fraternity’s journey, he credited members at home and abroad for standing together throughout the challenging period, saying their commitment ensured that the hall emerged stronger.

“It took the efforts of many to get us to the progress reported above. The role of Old Vandals in the Executive, Legislature, and the Judiciary deserves commendation. The wise guidance of the National Council of Elders of OVA cannot be overstated.”

He also commended the National Executive of the Old Vandals Association for providing leadership during the impasse and acknowledged the support of regional and international chapters.

“The National Executive of OVA must be commended for staying the course and for providing the needed coordination in those difficult days. Equally impressive was the mobilisation of resources and support by our regional and external chapters. Indeed, once a Vandal, always a Vandal.”

Dr. Apaak noted that the restoration of peace had paved the way for major milestones, including the return of the annual Jamboree to Commonwealth Hall, the reopening of the Old Vandals Association’s global headquarters and the return of six previously rasticated students to continue their studies.

He further described Commonwealth Hall as a cradle of leadership, saying it has consistently produced distinguished personalities across diverse professions.

“The Vandal City continues to produce prominent individuals and leaders… We are VANDALS: Vivacious, Affable, Neighbourly, Dedicated, Altruistic, and Loyal. And our motto is Truth Stands.”

Beyond his address, Dr. Apaak joined fellow Old Vandals in traditional hall chants, fraternity songs and solidarity gatherings, reaffirming the camaraderie and shared identity that have remained central to the Vandal tradition.

He also expressed gratitude to the Old Vandals Association for honouring his contributions, describing the recognition as the most cherished award of his public life.
