NPP opens nominations for national executive elections ahead of October polls

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that nominations for its National Executive Elections will open on August 17, with voting scheduled for October 3, 2026.

In a statement signed by National Elections Committee Chairman Frederick Opare-Ansah, the committee outlined the roadmap for the elections and the requirements for aspirants seeking to contest for national executive positions.

The National Elections Committee said the election process would be conducted pursuant to Article 10(2) of the party’s Constitution and other relevant provisions.

“The National Elections Committee hereby announces an update of the National Executives Elections as follows,” the statement said.

According to the timetable, nominations will close on August 22, while the filing of nomination forms will take place from August 23 to August 27.

Aspirants will subsequently undergo vetting between August 31 and September 3, with the results of the vetting process scheduled to be published on September 5.

Appeals against vetting decisions will be heard between September 6 and September 7, followed by a National Executive Committee/National Council meeting on September 10.

The official Notice of Poll is expected to be published on September 14, ahead of the main elections on October 3.

The party noted that aspirants must satisfy a number of constitutional requirements before they can contest for the national office.

“A person shall not be eligible to contest in the National Executive Elections unless he/she satisfies all the following conditions,” the statement said.

Among the requirements are active membership of the party for at least two years, good character, membership in good standing, and payment of membership dues for at least the past two years.

Aspirants must also have paid the prescribed fees and been determined by the National Vetting Committee to qualify to contest for a national office position.

For the National Youth Organiser position, the party stated that an aspiring candidate “should not attain the age of forty (40) years.”

The elections will cover nine national positions: National Chairperson, National Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communication Director.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana will conduct the elections under the supervision of the NPP’s National Elections Committee in line with the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).
