The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed reports that former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, is under investigation for alleged infractions.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp, the GAF described the report as “false and groundless” and urged the public to disregard it.
“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces has been drawn to a malicious news item alleging that General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, former Chief of the Defence Staff and the current Deputy High Commissioner to Canada, is under probe by the Ghana Armed Forces for various infractions,” the statement said.
The military stressed that no investigation was being conducted against the retired General, who served as CDS before taking up his diplomatic assignment.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state emphatically that the story is false and groundless. No such investigation is being undertaken,” it stated.
The GAF further appealed to the public, particularly well-meaning citizens, to ignore the report and refrain from circulating what it described as misinformation.
“All well-meaning citizens are urged to ignore the report and cease the spread of such misinformation,” the statement added.
General Oppong-Peprah, who retired from active military service after a long career in the GAF, currently serves as Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Canada.
He previously held several senior positions within the military, including Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff.
The denial by the military comes amid reports circulating in the media alleging that the former CDS was being investigated over various matters. General Oppong-Peprah has also publicly denied being under any military probe and challenged anyone with evidence of wrongdoing to make it public.
The GAF said the clarification was issued to set the record straight and protect the public from misinformation concerning the former military chief.
