Police arrest two suspects over Gomoa Dominase mobile money robbery

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack at a mobile money vending point in Gomoa Dominase that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old vendor.

The arrests were announced in a statement issued by the Central East Regional Police Command on August 27, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Isaac Baffoe, also known as Kwame Cheddo, and Prince Tawiah Baidoo, were arrested following investigations into the robbery, which occurred on June 6, 2026.

Police said investigators made a breakthrough after discovering that an iPhone 13 Pro stolen from the deceased during the robbery had been activated.

The statement noted that police intelligence subsequently led officers to Kwesimintsim in the Western Region, where Isaac Baffoe was arrested on June 26, 2026.

“A search conducted on suspect Isaac Baffoe alias Kwame Cheddo led to the retrieval of the mentioned iPhone 13pro belonging to the deceased mobile money vendor which he the suspect had concealed in an iPhone 17 safety phone case together with other mobile phone accessories,” the statement said.

During interrogation, Isaac Baffoe reportedly led investigators to the arrest of Prince Tawiah Baidoo, a phone technician based in Kwesimintsim.

According to the police, Baidoo confessed that he replaced the motherboard, Face ID component and camera sensors of the iPhone 13 Pro at a repair cost of GH¢2,650.

“Following this confession by suspect Prince Tawiah Baidoo, a search was subsequently conducted at his place of abode which led to the recovery of a box containing the original components (motherboard, Face ID components and camera sensors) removed from the deceased’s iPhone,” the statement added.

The recovered parts are believed to be from the phone stolen from the deceased vendor during the robbery attack.

Both suspects have since been put before the Ofaakor Circuit Court pending further investigations.

Police said the recovered iPhone and both its original and refurbished components have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations and future prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Central East Regional Police Command said efforts have been intensified to identify and arrest all members of the robbery gang as well as persons connected to the handling of the stolen iPhone.

Central East Regional Police Command urges the public to assist with the ongoing investigation and further appeals to any person(s) with credible information to contact the Police Emergency numbers 191 or 18555, or report to the nearest police station.
