Mahama appoints Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as acting Director-General of Value for Money Office

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as the Acting Director-General of the Value for Money Office.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

According to the statement, the appointment was made pursuant to Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 14(1) of the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172).

Dr. Aziz-Bamba will serve in an acting capacity pending the receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

According to the statement, Dr. Aziz-Bamba is a Harvard-trained lawyer and, prior to his appointment, served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law.

The statement said his appointment is expected to help operationalise the newly established office and strengthen efforts to ensure prudent use of public resources.

“His appointment marks an important step towards operationalising the Office, strengthening scrutiny of public spending, curbing waste and ensuring that public expenditure delivers tangible benefits to Ghanaians.”

The Value for Money Office was established under the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172), as part of efforts to strengthen oversight of government expenditure and ensure that public funds are used efficiently.

The office is expected to scrutinise public spending and projects to help curb waste, cost overruns and other forms of inefficient expenditure.

Dr. Aziz-Bamba’s appointment is therefore a key step towards getting the new institution fully operational and strengthening the government’s value-for-money and public accountability framework.
