The Ghana Police Service has interdicted a police officer in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ivan Baidoo on the Tema Motorway.
The officer, identified as General Corporal Robert Koranteng, has also been arrested and is currently in police custody.
In a statement issued on Saturday, September 12, the Police Service said the officer was identified and interdicted following initial investigations into a viral video related to the incident, which occurred on August 27, 2026.
The Service said the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is intensifying investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
It added that the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has also been tasked with investigating the conduct of General Corporal Koranteng.
“The Ghana Police Service assures the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations,” the statement said.
The interdiction follows public outrage on social media after a video purportedly showing events leading to the death of the young man circulated widely.
The Police Service said investigations remain ongoing as efforts continue to establish the facts surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate action to be taken.
