Regional Elections: NDC bars personal security from centres, bans proxy voting

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has placed the Ghana Police Service in sole charge of security at its forthcoming regional elections, prohibiting personal security details accompanying government officials and other individuals from entering designated voting areas.
The directive is part of four election protocols issued by the party on Thursday, November 5, 2026, to regulate the conduct of the regional polls and ensure a peaceful and transparent exercise.
In the statement signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC declared that “The Ghana Police Service shall have sole responsibility for security at all election centres.”
It further warned that “Personal security details accompanying government officials or any other individuals shall not be permitted within designated voting areas.”
The party also introduced measures to prevent proxy voting, requiring all eligible delegates to appear physically at their respective voting centres to participate in the elections.
“There shall be no proxy voting. Every eligible delegate must be physically present to cast his or her vote,” the statement emphasised.
For voter identification and validation, delegates must present one of three approved documents: a valid NDC Party Identification Card, an official accreditation document, or an embossed photograph captured in the approved voters’ register.
The party has scheduled voting to begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m., but delegates already in the queue by the closing time will be allowed to exercise their franchise.
“Voting shall commence at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. However, delegates already in the queue by 4:00 p.m. shall be allowed to vote,” the statement clarified.
The NDC has urged aspirants, delegates, supporters and election officials to strictly adhere to the arrangements, stressing the need for responsible conduct throughout the process.
It called on all stakeholders to “conduct themselves with discipline, restraint and responsibility” and work together to ensure elections that uphold the party’s democratic values and unity.
The protocols form part of the party’s preparations for its regional elections, with the NDC seeking to establish clear rules governing delegate participation, voting procedures and security at the various election centres.
