Mahama orders task force to halt drug trafficking through Ghana’s borders

‎President John Dramani Mahama has directed the formation of an inter-agency task force to develop measures to prevent the trafficking of narcotic drugs through Ghana’s borders.
‎
‎According to a statement released on September 17, 2026, and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, the President received a detailed briefing on ongoing investigations into the recent drug trafficking cases.
‎
‎The statement said, “The President was informed that ten (10) individuals, including four officers of the Customs Division of the GRA are being held while investigations continue.”
‎
‎The meeting also reviewed the structure and security systems currently in place and recommended new actions to strengthen efforts against narcotic trafficking.
‎
‎President Mahama has subsequently directed the formation of an inter-agency task force to develop a detailed roadmap to address the issue.
‎
‎The statement said, “President Mahama directed that an inter-agency task force be formed to present a detailed roadmap, emanating from today’s meeting, on measures to prevent the trafficking of drugs through Ghana’s borders in two weeks.”

‎The task force is expected to present the roadmap within two weeks, outlining measures aimed at preventing the trafficking of narcotic drugs through Ghana’s borders.
