EOCO: Baffour Awuah arrested over alleged conspiracy, SIC financial loss and money laundering

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is being investigated for alleged financial and economic crimes involving SIC Savings and Loans.
Baffour Awuah, a Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, voluntarily appeared at EOCO’s premises at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, to assist with the investigation.
According to EOCO, his appearance followed several months of efforts by the Office to secure his attendance.
The allegations under investigation include criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences, among other matters.
EOCO said after his appearance, it commenced the applicable investigative procedures and subsequently placed him under arrest.
“In accordance with those procedures, Mr. Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds,” EOCO said.
The Office said it remains focused on establishing the facts surrounding the allegations and will pursue all relevant lines of inquiry.
“The Office will continue to pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine the available evidence and afford all persons involved their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws,” it stated.
EOCO also assured the public that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with due process.
“EOCO further wishes to assure the public that its investigations will progress professionally, independently and in accordance with due process,” the Office said.
The Office stressed that the investigation is ongoing and urged the public not to draw premature conclusions about the culpability of the lawyer.
The case centres on alleged financial offences involving SIC Savings and Loans, including financial loss, money laundering, criminal conspiracy and tax-related offences.
EOCO said it would provide further information when appropriate and legally permissible, while urging the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to take their course.
