ZAMSTECH at 50: Dr. Apaak celebrates school’s contribution to Ghana’s development

The Ministry of Education has commended Zamse Senior High/Technical School (ZAMSTECH) for its contribution to education and human capital development in the Upper East Region as the institution marks 50 years of existence.
Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, who represented the Education Minister at ZAMSTECH’s Golden Jubilee celebration in Bolgatanga on Saturday, October 3, 2026, said the school had fulfilled the vision behind its establishment in 1976.
Dr. Apaak said ZAMSTECH had, over the past five decades, produced professionals including doctors, engineers, teachers, technicians, civil servants and entrepreneurs who have contributed to national development.
“Fifty years ago, in 1976, Zamse Senior High/Technical School opened its doors with a simple but powerful promise: that the young people of the Upper East Region deserved an education equal to that offered anywhere in this country,” he said.
He added, “Half a century later, that promise has been kept.”
According to Dr. Apaak, the Golden Jubilee should go beyond celebration and provide an opportunity for the school community and its stakeholders to reflect on the institution’s achievements and its future.
“A golden jubilee is not only a celebration. It is a moment to take stock: of what has been built, of what remains to be done, and of who must carry it forward,” he stated.
He stressed that the continued development of ZAMSTECH would require the collective efforts of government, teachers, parents, traditional authorities and alumni.
“No school raises itself. ZAMSTECH’s fifty years are the work of many hands,” Dr Apaak said.
He also urged alumni to translate their connection to the school into sustained support and mentorship for current students.
“To the alumni: this jubilee is your moment too. A school’s next fifty years are often built on the generosity, and the mentorship, of those who came before,” he stated.
ZAMSTECH was established in 1976 and is celebrating its Golden Jubilee under the theme, “Empowering Minds and Shaping the Future: The Role of Stakeholders.”
The anniversary celebration brought together government representatives, school authorities, staff, students, alumni, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to mark the institution’s five decades of education and technical training.
