M.anifest challenges emerging artistes to dare to be different in Ghana’s music industry

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper and musician M.anifest has urged emerging artistes to embrace their creative identities and resist the pressure to conform to popular music trends, stressing that originality and confidence are essential to shaping the future of the industry.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, October 16, the rapper, born Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, encouraged young musicians to recognise their potential to influence the direction of music by experimenting with new sounds and ideas rather than simply following what is commercially popular.
He expressed concern that some exceptionally talented young artistes risk suppressing their creativity by trying to fit into existing trends instead of developing distinctive musical styles that set them apart.
“I hope that they feel very fearless. I hope that they know that they can shape what is tomorrow. It’s important for us to be confident to be able to stick to what people are really gifted at, even though it is not what is in popular demand is what we are trying to do,” he said.
M.anifest explained that many of the trends dominating the music industry today emerged because artistes dared to challenge existing conventions and introduce fresh ideas.
He urged emerging musicians to recognise that they, too, have the ability to influence the industry’s evolution if they remain committed to their creative vision.
The rapper further noted that musical preferences differ among audiences, arguing that no single genre or sound needs to dominate every listening environment.
According to him, people gravitate towards different songs and musical styles depending on the occasion and their preferences, creating opportunities for artistes with diverse creative approaches.
He maintained that the music industry has room for multiple forms of expression and that emerging musicians should not abandon their strengths simply because their styles do not align with current commercial demands.
M.anifest’s comments highlight the importance of artistic independence, originality and creative confidence as young musicians seek to establish their identities and contribute to the growth of Ghana’s music industry.
