The Ghana Police Service has arrested two teachers of Techiman Senior High School over an alleged assault on a 17-year-old student, as investigations into a viral video of the incident intensify.
The suspects are Jerry Jones Owusu Bekoe, 37, an English teacher, and Ameyaw Adusa, 44, who teaches Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
The Bono East Regional Police Command confirmed their arrest in a press release dated November 1, 2026, stating that the two were in custody assisting with investigations.
In the statement, the Command said, “The Bono East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding a viral video depicting two teachers of Techiman Secondary School, assaulting a 17-year-old male student of the school.”
The police investigation centres on an incident that allegedly occurred on October 23 at about 4:00 pm on the school’s campus.
Preliminary findings suggest that the teachers confronted the Form Three student over allegations that he had assaulted two Form One students before allegedly attacking him.
The incident gained wider attention after footage showing the alleged assault circulated on social media.
The police investigation is running alongside an internal process initiated by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
In its October 31 statement, GES disclosed that the school’s disciplinary committee had held an initial hearing into the incident.
“The committee’s findings are expected to be submitted to Management through the Regional Directorate in the coming days to inform further action and decisions,” the Service said.
GES identified the affected student as Seedorf Abeka Ampah, a final-year Agricultural Science student, and confirmed that he had received medical attention and was responding positively to treatment.
The matter had also attracted the attention of the Ministry of Education, with Deputy Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak announcing that he had referred the video to the Director-General of GES for urgent investigation.
The referral was made at the instance of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, with the Director-General directed to apply the necessary sanctions against those found culpable.
Dr. Apaak stressed the need to maintain discipline and protect students in schools, warning that, “Misconduct will not be tolerated in our schools from any stakeholder, be it teaching and non-teaching staff, students or parents.”
Beyond the arrests and investigations, the Bono East Regional Police Command says it is taking steps to ensure the student receives the necessary care.
“The Command is taking steps to ensure the victim receives the needed medical and psychological support,” the police statement said.
The Command also assured the public of its commitment to student welfare, stating, “The Regional Police Command wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to the welfare and protection of all students.”
While the two teachers have been arrested, the investigations and disciplinary process are yet to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine any further action.
