30th GJA Awards: BoG offers journalist sponsorship to attend IMF, World Bank meetings

The Bank of Ghana has outlined sponsorship to enable the recipient of its Governor’s Economic and Financial Story of the Year Award to attend either the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring Meetings or Annual Meetings.
The sponsorship forms part of a broader award package intended to encourage high-quality journalism on economic and financial developments and improve public understanding of national policy issues.
Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama announced the package during his address at the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
He said the recipient would also receive a laptop computer and a one-year internet data subscription.
“The award package includes sponsorship to attend either the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings or Annual Meetings, offering a unique opportunity to engage with global policymakers, researchers, and financial leaders,” Dr. Asiama said.
He added that the award would provide additional opportunities for professional development, including fellowships with journalism institutions, scholarships for further studies and professional exchange programmes with international media organisations.
The Governor’s Economic and Financial Story of the Year Award was established by the Bank of Ghana to recognise and encourage reporting that improves public understanding of economic and financial issues.
According to Dr. Asiama, the award is intended to promote financial literacy and contribute constructively to national policy discourse.
The initiative reflects the Bank’s recognition of the role journalists play in explaining issues such as monetary policy, inflation, financial sector reforms, exchange rate movements and digital financial innovations.
Dr. Asiama said accurate and insightful reporting helps translate complex economic developments into information that citizens can understand and use.
The speech outlined the benefits attached to the award but did not name the recipient of the sponsorship or indicate when the selected journalist would attend the international meetings.
