Ghanaians must end this ‘horror movie’ – Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, has urged Ghanaians to take action against the current state of governance, describing it as a “horror movie” that has lasted eight years.
Speaking at a governance forum in Accra, Mahama emphasized that Ghana is at a crossroads, where injustice and economic hardship are prevalent.
Mahama highlighted the erosion of democratic institutions, stating that the gains made since 1992 have been lost.
He criticized the government’s handling of public funds, calling the pledge to protect the public purse a “hollow promise”.
The World Bank reports that 870,000 Ghanaians have slipped below the poverty line, while the Ghana Statistical Service says 1.7 million are multidimensionally poor under the Akufo Addo/Bawumia administration.
Mahama stressed the need for unity, urging Ghanaians to put their nation first and reject the current NPP government at the polls on December 7.
He promised to reset governance and democratic systems, ensuring accountability and transparency.
The National Democratic Congress manifesto, “Resetting Ghana: Jobs, Accountability, Prosperity,” outlines Mahama’s vision for a better Ghana.
Mahama’s speech underscored the importance of democratic governance in improving the living conditions of all citizens, including people living with disabilities, retirees, and young people seeking jobs.
As Mahama noted, “Democracy must be meaningful to citizens. Democracy must deliver justice to the people”.
He pledged to combat corruption, ensure transparent governance, and promote scrutiny and accountability.
