Injustice is eating our society away – Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently expressed his concerns about the state of governance in Ghana, stating, “Injustice is eating our society away as our economy inflicts untold hardships on millions of suffering Ghanaians”.
He made these comments during a governance forum in Accra on Thursday evening, October 31, 2024.
Mahama emphasized that Ghana has reached a crossroads, and it’s imperative to unite and prioritize the nation’s success.
He cited alarming statistics from the World Bank and the Ghana Statistical Service, indicating that 870,000 people have fallen below the poverty line, and 1.7 million Ghanaians are multidimensionally poor under the current administration.
The former President attributed these challenges to the erosion of democratic institutions over the past eight years.
He described the situation as a “horror movie” that Ghanaians must end by rejecting the current government at the polls on December 7th.
Mahama also criticized the Akufo-Addo-led administration for failing to protect the public purse, leading to widespread corruption, disregard for citizens’ rights, and environmental degradation.
He promised to “reset” Ghana’s governance and democratic systems, ensuring accountability and good governance.
As part of his campaign message, Mahama plans to establish a Governance Advisory Council to improve accountability and transparency.
He also proposed a 24-hour economy for business development, growth, and job creation, focusing on investments in agriculture, manufacturing, and the creative economy.
