Election 2024: Kennedy Agyapong would have performed better against Mahama – Musa Dankwa

Musa Dankwa, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, believes Kennedy Agyapong would have been a stronger presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) than Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
Speaking on Good Evening Ghana, Dankwa emphasized the importance of ethnic dynamics in Ghanaian elections.
“The demographics of the NPP voters are largely Akans. Now you have an Akan base but your candidate comes from a different tribe, it will be difficult to galvanize the Akans,” Dankwa explained.
He noted that some voters align with the party primarily due to their ethnic identity, making it challenging to energize the base when a non-Akan candidate is presented.
Dankwa’s analysis suggests that Kennedy Agyapong’s candidacy would have bridged this ethnic divide, potentially shifting the electoral landscape in favor of the NPP.
“During the polling season, when you put an Akan candidate against John Dramani Mahama, the gap shifts. Kennedy Agyapong was doing better against John Dramani Mahama than Bawumia did,” he stated.
