Bawumia consults with Christian Council over national unity

The 2028 flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has held consultations with the Christian Council of Ghana on national unity.
The former Vice President led a delegation of the NPP to a meeting with the leadership of the Christian Council on Thursday, June 11, where discussions centered on Ghana’s development, social cohesion and national progress.
In a post shared on X on Friday morning, Dr. Bawumia described the engagement as productive and underscored the importance of collaboration between political and religious institutions in advancing the country’s development agenda.
“The discussions focused on Ghana’s development, national unity, and shared progress,” he stated.
According to him, the meeting formed part of the NPP’s broader efforts to maintain dialogue with key stakeholders whose contributions are essential to the country’s democratic and socio-economic growth.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the party remains committed to strengthening ties with faith-based organizations and other groups that play significant roles in promoting peace and stability across the country.
“We reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to sustained engagement with religious bodies as key partners in promoting peace, inclusivity and prosperity for all Ghanaians,” he said.
The Christian Council of Ghana is one of the country’s leading religious organizations and has historically played an active role in national conversations on governance, democracy, social justice and peacebuilding.
Political observers have often highlighted the importance of engagement between political leaders and religious institutions, particularly as the country prepares for future electoral contests and seeks to deepen national cohesion.
Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Council for hosting the delegation and contributing to the discussions.
“We are deeply grateful to the Council for the warm reception and valuable insights shared,” he wrote.
He added that continued cooperation among political, religious and civic actors remains critical to Ghana’s development aspirations.
“Together, we are moving forward,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
The meeting is among a series of stakeholder engagements being undertaken by the NPP leadership as the party positions itself ahead of the 2028 general elections while maintaining dialogue on issues affecting national development and unity.
