NDC suspends Awutu Senya East party chairman following MP petition

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended the Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, for five months after a petition by the area’s Member of Parliament.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a letter dated July 22, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.

It follows a decision by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) after considering a petition submitted by Awutu Senya East MP, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, together with recommendations from the Central Regional Council of Elders.

According to the letter, the FEC deliberated extensively on the matter before deciding to invoke provisions of Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the party’s constitution.

“The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), at its meeting held on 21st July 2026, considered a petition lodged against you by the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hon. Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, together with recommendations from the Central Regional Council of Elders,” the statement said.

It added that the committee found sufficient grounds to initiate disciplinary measures against the constituency chairman.

“Having extensively deliberated on the matter, FEC found sufficient basis to invoke the provisions of Article 48(4) and Article 48(6) of the Party’s Constitution,” the letter stated.

The party subsequently announced the suspension, directing Mr. Ofosu Agyare to step aside from his duties while investigations continue.

“Accordingly, you are hereby suspended from your position as Constituency Chairman of Awutu Senya East Constituency for a period of five (5) months, effective immediately,” the letter noted.

The statement further disclosed that the matter has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for investigation and any further action deemed appropriate under the party’s constitution.

During the suspension period, Mr. Ofosu Agyare has been instructed not to perform any functions or exercise any authority as constituency chairman until the disciplinary process is concluded or the party issues further directives.
