Presidential election: Let’s change our candidate – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) suffered a significant loss in the 2024 general election, and former Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has attributed this defeat to the party’s choice of candidates.
“Party loyalists squarely blame the NPP’s choice of candidates for their unprecedented loss,” Kyei Mensah Bonsu revealed in an interview on Nhyirah FM.
Supporters expressed dissatisfaction with the NPP candidates, either abstaining from voting or casting their ballots for the rival National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted that constituents are clamoring for a change in candidates, signaling a desire for fresh faces to represent the party.
“The party is in a state of confusion, and we need to address the discontent among voters,” Kyei Mensah Bonsu acknowledged. He emphasized the need for introspection and adaptation within the party to bounce back from this electoral setback.
The NPP’s defeat was influenced by a combination of economic challenges, miscommunication within the leadership circle, and a sense of complacency rooted in past achievements.
Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu stressed the importance of learning from past mistakes and embracing a renewed approach to regain the trust of disillusioned voters across the nation.
In recent years, Ghana has seen a surge in voter dissatisfaction, with many citizens expressing frustration with the country’s economic challenges and governance issues.
According to a report by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development, voter turnout in the 2024 general election was lower than expected, with many citizens opting to stay away from the polls due to dissatisfaction with the candidates and parties.
