McGill University Nkabom Program: Gov’t is focused on STEM, innovation-oriented education – Dr. Apaak

The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has stated that developing STEM and innovation-oriented education is a key focus area for the Ministry.
“One of our key focus areas has been the development of STEM and innovation-oriented education,” Dr. Apaak stated during the McGill University Nkabom – Nutrition and Sustainable Agri-Food Collaborative Meeting held at Peduase Valley Resort, Peduase on Wednesday, 9th April 2025.
This initiative aims to drive the country’s industrial growth and national development by integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into senior high school curricula.
The Ministry is working to expand access to STEM-focused education across the country, prioritizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) education. “STEM is the future. If we are to make progress as a nation and prepare our children to fully participate in the future, we must continue to invest in STEM and expand facilities to ensure every Ghanaian child benefits,” Dr. Apaak added.
The Ghana National Research Fund has been established to support research and knowledge production, with start-up funding from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) this year.
Dr. Apaak also emphasized the importance of partnerships, saying, “To all the partner universities represented here today, I commend your efforts. Your work is vital, and your achievements are a source of pride for us all.” By expanding access to STEM education, investing in research and development, and promoting partnerships, Ghana is poised to make significant progress in the years to come.
