We are developing mathematics curriculum for visually impaired students at SHS level – Haruna

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed that the government is developing a new mathematics curriculum tailored for visually impaired students at the Senior High School level.
Speaking at the official inauguration of the Council at the Ministry of Education, the sector minister, Haruna Iddrisu
Mr. Iddrisu disclosed this during the official inauguration of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council at the Ministry of Education recently, adding that the move will enable visually impaired students to extend their career opportunities.
He further stated that education will not be treated as a privilege; “it will remain a fundamental human right, with our commitment to make it increasingly available and accessible to all deserving Ghanaians.
“I am happy to announce that we currently developing a curriculum in mathematics specifically tailored for visually impaired students at the Senior High Level that will promote inclusive education. A move that, for the first time that will allow visually impaired students in mathematics and gain access and extend their career opportunities.
“In addition, we are also designing a Ghanaian Sign Language Curriculum, which is also significant. We need to have some category, persons who are deaf and have hearing issues will be supported with that,” Mr. Iddrisu stated.
The sector minister also indicated that the government is working with the National Council for Assessment (NACA) to undertake some bold reform on curriculum to make truly inclusive.
